Job Description

The Environmental Manager is responsible for overseeing the environmental performance of the Group and maintaining its multisite ISO14001 - BES 6001 accreditation.

They will develop, implement, and monitor environmental policies and practises that promote sustainable development and adhere to the Group Environmental Policy.

Whilst maintaining the group environmental management system they will also collate and manage environmental performance data.  This data will be employed to identify areas for improvement and provide direction for both the Group’s Environmental policy and overall strategy.

The job holder should:

  • Contribute to shaping the Group Environmental Policy across the three UK sites
  • Maintain the environmental management system, including documentations and records
  • Support business unit directors and managers to adhere to the requirements of the EMS, and set and achieve their environmental objectives
  • Facilitate EMS processes for Business Unit Directors and Managers and integrate Environmental Management processes where possible
  • Develop and deliver an internal auditing plan throughout the various business units and departments
  • Monitor and management of REACH compliance and Hadley declaration to UK and EU legislation.
  • Management of all substances associated to COSHH and management of the risk assessment in the Alcumus Sypol system
  • Management of all environmental emergency preparedness procedures and routing control and maintenance of spill kits.
  • Maintain non-conformance registers, and ensure that non-conformances are closed out by process owners in a timely manner
  • Attend external audits and manage the relationship with certification bodies
  • Collation of information for, and facilitate Management Review meeting
  • Monitoring and reviewing environmental KPI's and objectives for the various business units
  • Maintain the company legal register and carry out environmental compliance audits
  • Ensure the company is compliant with environmental laws and regulations and maintain waste duty of care, packing regulations and ESOS compliance
  • Manage and facilitate the deliver of energy saving projects.
  • Ensure Environmental awareness and the requirements of ISO 14001 is trained to all employees and appropriate refresher training given
  • Support and administer environmental improvement projects around the company
  • Report on EMS activity and process performance monthly, quarterly, and annually
  • Support the Group Health and Safety Manager Coordinator when necessary
  • Liaise and coordinate with the Engineering Quality Manager
  • Act as a champion for environmental issues within the organisation
  • Coordinate and provide appropriate training to staff at all levels

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least 2 years managing an environmental management system (preferably in the manufacturing / metal products sector)
  •  Educated to degree or higher national diploma level in an environmental related subject
  • Excellent understanding of ISO 14001:2015 and BES 6001
  • Internal auditor trained ISO 14001:2015 (CQI/IRCA accredited)

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Experience of internal auditing environmental management systems
  • Experience of building capacity for environmental management within a business.
  • Experience of external audits with Certification Bodies
  • Competent in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio, and able to produce high quality process flows charts, procedures, reports and presentations
  • Membership of IEMA (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Quality and health and safety management and advantage (ISO 9001 and ISO 45001)
  • Demonstrate an ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
  • Demonstrate project management skills
  • Work collaboratively, negotiate, and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the Group Environmental Policy
  • Communicate with stakeholders the impact of technology change and potential effects upon the group’s environmental performance
  • Recommend solutions without compromising quality or the Group’s environmental performance while optimising cost
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact upon the Group’s environmental performance and policy
